A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE PGMC

  • Picture it... Mirabar...1995.  Brian Lopes & Chris Brown take a break from crooning to the house karaoke system & turn to one another, "Imagine if we had a gay men's chorus here in RI?"  Need we say more?

  • The first rehearsal of the PGMC took place on November 1, 1995 at a private home. Soon we found a new home at St. James Episcopal Church in North Providence. Finally after several months of a slow but fun start, the group found an accompanist & moved to a larger location at Bell St. Chapel in Providence.

  • Our choice of music is purposely diverse. We concentrate on favorite pieces of all eras, including rock & show tunes. We also incorporate pieces of a more formal & classical nature. This diversity helps us to grow musically & pleases the tastes of audiences & chorus members alike. Rehearsals are conducted in a non-threatening and humorous atmosphere.

  • There are no auditions, all are welcome.

 SPRING 2014 - "Love"

Who doesn't like a good love song?

SPRING 2005 - "It Takes Two"

On June 1st, 3rd & 4th we set sail  aboard the USS Prince William and  got caught up watching Tom and Jerry build a  Bridge over Troubled Waters. Will they have An Old Fashioned Wedding? There we were, Somewhere Out There, singing our hearts out like it was The Last Night of the World. Sonny and Cher brought the house down and  who knew Marcus could be such a Maneater? But Enough is Enough. It was  a wonderful way to welcome the beginning of gay pride month.

 Fall 2004 - "Winter Serenade"

What sweeter music than the Christmas lullabies and jingle bells of the Providence Gay Men's Chorus rockin' around the Christmas tree to wish you a Merry Christmas !

Wed, Dec 1st 7:30 PM at Park Place Congregational Church in Pawtucket

Sat, Dec 4th 7:30 pm at Beneficent Church in Providence

Sun, Dec 5th 7:30 PM at Benificent Church in Providence

 SPRING 2004 - "ExtrABBAganza"

This spring the PGMC took a big chance and danced off their traditional risers to use a 1970s nightclub scenario to sing the infectious music of ABBA.

Historic moments from our personal lives charted the course of gay rights and provided  song introductions.

Love beads, head bands, fringe and a band helped bring us all back to the disco days of Dancin' Queens!

 Fall 2003 - "Road Trip"

Come join us on a 'journey of song' as we tour our great country through the imagery put to word by some of the greatest composers. Let the songs bring you back to the places you visited in the past and explore new places you may someday travel to. We are especially excited about presenting some arrangements by our own members. So climb aboard our tour bus of song.....
