Who can sing in the PGMC?
- You identify as a gay or bisexual man (or even if you identify as straight, and want to sing with gay or bisexual men!), and are over the age of 18.
- Singing Membership is open to anyone who has a good musical ear, can match pitch, and has a sense of rhythm. The ability to read music is not required.
- You must commit to attend one (1) rehearsal per week (and optional supplemental and sectional rehearsals)
- You are able to commit to three (3) or four (4) concerts, per concert period, including all technical rehearsals.
Rehearsals are held weekly on Monday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:30pm. We rehearse at the historic Beneficent Church located at 300 Weybosset St., Providence, RI. It is expected that all members be prepared to sing when they arrive. Rehearsals start promptly at 7:00pm with a vocal warm-up and then a focused concentration on the music.
Throughout each concert preparation period, the Artistic Director may schedule “Supplemental Rehearsals” to provide additional rehearsal opportunities outside of the usual Monday night rehearsals. The Supplemental rehearsals are not mandatory, but are strongly encouraged, as they give members the opportunity to work on particular songs and/or voice parts that may be causing difficulty in the context of a smaller group, where more individualized attention can be provided.
What about opportunities for singing a solo or singing in a smaller Ensemble group?
For each concert program, there are opportunities for members to showcase their talents by singing a solo or singing as part of an ensemble, such as a duet, trio, quartet or larger group. Open auditions for these opportunities are typically held near the beginning of the rehearsal period.
How much does it cost to join the PGMC?
Membership Dues: $100.00 per CALENDAR year or $50.00 per CONCERT
Please do not let an inability to pay stop you from joining the PGMC. We are willing to work with you confidentially regarding your financial situation.
How do I join?
Come to the first rehearsal of the season to check us out. You can e-mail the Artistic Director with any questions you may have. We can’t make joining the PGMC much easier.
What if I can’t sing but still want to be a member?
We are always looking for volunteers to assist us before and during our concerts in our Fifth Section. Contact our Business Manager for more information.
